The Ricebird Band participated in UIL Contest & Sight Reading where they earned some of the best ratings El Campo has had in years! 🏆 The ECMS Non-Varsity band (comprised of mostly 7th graders) earned a 3-3-3 (Good) rating on stage with their prepared music and a 2-2-2 (Excellent) rating in the sight reading room.  🏆The ECMS Varsity band received a 1-1-1 (Superior) on stage and a 1-1-1 (Superior) in the sight reading room, earning the highest rating a band can receive along with the distinction of a Sweepstakes Award winning ensemble! 🏆The High School Band earned a 1-2-2 on stage and a 2-2-1 in the sight reading room. 🎉 Congratulations to all! Here is a short description of what this performance looks like...in January, bands choose 3 pieces of music from the UIL-approved list that they practice for 2-3 months. They perform their prepared selections for 3 judges who adjudicate and critique each ensemble while giving them a rating. Those judges give a rating ranging from 1 (Superior) to 5 (Very Poor). After their judged performance on the stage, bands are escorted into another room where they are given a new piece of music (never before seen) that they can practice for only 7 minutes. After the allotted time expires, they perform for a second set of judges to receive their Sight Reading score.   📷 band booster club Facebook page

ECMS Parents and Guardians: On Monday, April 8, 2024, we will be allowing students to view the very rare full solar eclipse with the aid of protective eyewear. The Science teachers have been preparing students for the brief viewing, helping them to understand not only the rotational positions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun but also the importance of using protective gear, as in all “lab” activities. Our area of Texas will not have the most optimal view but we will have partial viewing opportunities, up to 95% totality, between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm as long as there is limited cloud cover. The student viewing will last about 1 minute as they are taken outside and monitored in small class size groups and then returned to the building. We will be suspending all other outside activities for the day: PE, Athletics, and lunch recess will be conducted inside. In the event that you would prefer your child not participate in the viewing, please email your child’s science teacher or call the front office by Friday, April 5. Please give your child’s name and grade to the receptionist. We also hope that you take the opportunity to speak with your child about the solar eclipse and the safety required to enjoy the viewing, which will not happen again until August 2044. Thank you.
