🎉Help us celebrate our Ricebird & Ladybird Coaches! Today is officially Texas High School Coaches Day across the state of Texas. The state legislature of Texas has made November 3rd Texas High School Coaches Day in appreciation for what coaches do for kids and communities all across the state.
Here in El Campo, we have a group of outstanding coaches who are dedicated to serving the students of El Campo ISD in a variety of ways. The job of a coach extends well beyond normal business hours and beyond the wins and losses of the games. Today we thank our coaches for the difference they make in the lives of students, and the manner in which they represent our district and community throughout the year!
Thank you, coaches!

Keith Murphy, a local El Campo resident and school supporter, believes that fellow El Camponians should support students in their academic efforts and encourage them to pursue higher education. Because of this goal, he worked with El Campo High School to award 20- $100 scholarships to students who have performed at the top of their class and students who have shown the most growth from their freshman year of high school to their sophomore year of high school.
Keith, a graduate of Baytown's Sterling High School attended college at Texas A&M University majoring in Engineering. Through the years he worked in the oil and gas industry and started his own company at one point of his career. Moving to El Campo to be close to his wife's family, he decided he wanted to encourage students in his local community. Aware of the hard work it takes to be successful in college, he encouraged the students at ECHS to take advantage of the opportunities afforded to them during school and encouraged them to take advanced level mathematics. Keith believes that students deserve to be recognized for their academic achievements just as much if not more than for their athletic achievements. Small tokens of recognition let the students know that their efforts are seen and encourages them to keep striving for more.
Scholarship recipients are Cash Escamilla, William Romero-Salazar, Iladia Gibbs, Charlise Pruett-Scutt, Zoe Schulze, Dylan Johnson, Cadence Dornak, Back row: Lance Brooks, Landon Brooks, Michael Roddy, Scholarship Donor: Keith Murphy, Bryan Cisneros, Ja'Kwuan Hudlin, Brooke Bacak, Jillian Croix, Adeline Hundl, Khaki Erwin, and Arianna Williams. Thursdays are for the 'Birds! Mrs. Wenglar's and Mrs. Hlavaty's students at ECHS spent Thursday mornings in October completing Halloween STEM challenges with the Ricebirds. They had a blast making pumpkin catapults, pumpkin towers, oozing Jack-o-lanterns and pumpkin rafts together. 🎃👻 Halloween is just around the corner, and we want to make sure everyone has a safe and spooktacular evening! 🌙✨ Here are some important safety tips to keep in mind:
1. Plan your route: Before heading out for trick-or-treating, map out a safe and well-lit route in familiar neighborhoods. Stick to areas with sidewalks and crosswalks to ensure everyone stays safe.
2. Be visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing, add reflective tape to costumes, or carry glow sticks or flashlights. This will help drivers and others see you in the dark.
3. Stay in groups: Trick-or-treat with friends or family members and never go alone. There's safety in numbers, and it's more fun to share the Halloween excitement together!
4. Look both ways: Always remember to look both ways before crossing the street, even if you're in a designated crosswalk. Drivers may not always see you, so stay alert and cautious.
5. Check treats: When you get home, make sure to inspect all treats before eating them. Discard any unwrapped or suspicious-looking items. Safety first!
6. Be cautious with costumes: Choose costumes that are flame-resistant and avoid masks that obstruct vision. Opt for face paint or makeup instead. Comfortable shoes are a must for a night of walking!
7. Respect boundaries: Only visit houses with porch lights on and respect any "no trick-or-treating" signs. Remember, not everyone celebrates Halloween, and it's important to be considerate.
8. Trust your instincts: If something feels off or unsafe, trust your gut and remove yourself from the situation. Your safety is the top priority.
🌟 Let's make this Halloween a memorable and safe one for everyone! Share these tips with your friends and family to ensure a night filled with treats, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Happy Halloween! 🎃👻
